I’m a vegetarian, but I actually don’t like many vegetables. What’s a healthy diet for me?

I’m a vegetarian. However, I dislike many (most) vegetables. Salads literally make me sick. Because of these things, I don’t eat as healthy as I should and I absolutely **** meat. So what would be a healthy lifetstyle choice {aka diet/foods to eat} for me?

Do you like tofu? Also nuts and beans. Are you lacto-ovo?? Eggs are good. Do you consider seafood vegetarian?? Just trying to think of some things that are high in protein.

The secret is ’sauces’. Anything (almost) can be saved with a good sauce. Buy a cookbook of sauces. You can cook them yourself, buy them. Try Hollandaise, my favorite.

well I have news for you.. that sort of attitude will end you up with bad health later down the road..
Our bodies are machines that need fuel to operate correctly..
In order for all our organs to process and to make the hormones and enzymes needed to do their functions..
you will just have to train your tastes to like other vegetables or think of them as medicine and force them down..
make more soups and stews.. they go down easier this way.. at least if you have 1 serving of vegetable soup a day. that might help…

I would make sure you eat a variety of fruits, beans, nuts, and grains. Maybe you could incorporate some veggies by concealing them in casseroles, burritos, stir-fries, curries, tofu scrambles, pasta sauces, etc? I don’t like many vegetables either, but it’s kind of hard to be healthy without them — whether you’re vegetarian or not.

Try a few recipes with only one or two vegetables, then try a few more recipes with more vegetables.

Vegatables are so verstile that it may just be matter of how you are used to cooking them. Use veggies in with beans and grains.

maybe u can eat bean especially soya bean, food which made from flour like bread and biscuit… can u eat egg and dairy products??? some vegetarian don’t eat egg and dairy product… u can buy some vegetarian food from the supermarket like fake fish which made from tofu, fake drumsticks and so on… most of them look like the real one but of cause the texture is different…

Well, there’s a lot of vegetables I’m not too fond of either, but I try to get as much as I can in my system anyway. Still, I don’t have as much of a problem with them so specific ones aren’t as big a deal.
Eat as much vegetables as you can. But eat plenty of fruits.
Try taking vitamins without gelatin or other animal products in them [unless you're vegetarian purely because you don't like the taste of meat]. Also try VitaminWater. [I like in particular: Dragonfruit, lemonade, strawberry kiwi, fruit punch, etc.] Or LifeWater depending on what you like.
Look for sites that will help instruct a BALANCED diet [which is very important] and give you tips on what foods to eat.
For example, it’s healthier to eat whole grains rather than refined grains.
Once you start researching it a bit [it's pretty simple], then you’ll probably come across a lot of choices.
Vegetarian/Tofu recipe cookbooks can be extremely helpful too.

I think you are being very brave in your honesty and openness to find a way around what is a problem for you. It’s a shame others have chosen to see this as something negative and offer only meanness in reply.

There are basic vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates and proteins that you need in your diet to be healthy. Find the foods that you do like to eat, even if they are limited and work from that. You can check all your foods yourself by googling them. For example: In the carbohydrate range which food do you like, noodles, rice, potato, bread just to name a few (remember brown is better than white; brown rice, brown bread) Sweet corn is also a source of carbs if you like that. Minerals and vitamins mostly come from veg. So Google the veg you like and find out what minerals and vitamins they contain and if you are missing any. If you are you might just have to swallow something you don’t enjoy. We usually only require small amounts of these every day if that’s a consolation. If it’s really bad you could always use supplements. (I don’t eat dairy so I take calcium tablets. Though if you eat heaps of veg you do get calcium in that.) Protein is next: When you say you **** meat is this for ethical reasons IE: You don’t like to contribute to the death of animals. If so I gather this would include poultry and fish, all of which are sources of protein. If not just choose which ones you do like, it doesn’t matter if you eat the same food. If it is there are other sources of protein. Any type of bean; green beans, baked beans, kidney beans, black beans, white beans - there are a multitude. Nuts and grains (especially wheat) also contain protein, as do eggs and dairy. Tofu is another form of protein non meat eaters use. It is also bean based, derived from soy bean curd. (Soy products or amaranth (green veg) is neccessary to replace an amino acid which would otherwise be missing from your diet if you are a non meat eater.) Pretty tasteless from my experience in it’s pure form but an option to meat. You don’t need much protein per day. A gram per body kl of body weight. Some say less than that. So if you weigh 60kls you only need 60 grams of protein per day. Non meat based protein is extracted more efficiently if you have some form of vitamin C with it. So have a piece of fruit after your protein (meat etc processes without vit C) or a glass of juice with your meal. You can Google for all your daily requirements of each food source. Calorie King’s website for example gives you a lot of info.

So for breakfast you could have a choice of eggs, cereals, cheese, fruit, toast. (Make sure you cereal is healthy not white cereal coated in sugar like cocoa pops, fruit loops but rather bran, wheat based, muesli, porridge etc.)

Lunch if you like noodles or other carbs you could do this with cheese or a nice sauce like the other lady suggested. Soup is another option, especially home made (watch out for fat content with shop bought) Veggies in soup might be more appealing for you. Italian minestrone or Scottish broth with potato and leek. Mushrooms contain a lot of minerals and vitamins - though if you’re not a big veg eater you probably don’t like them.

Dinner: Find the veg you do like and just eat that with a bit of tofu, seed, nut, dairy or grain food for protein. If you start to get sick of the same thing experiment a little with veg you may not have tried before or different veg recipes. The Buddhas I believe sell cookbooks with very good veg recipes.

This probably won’t be an easy journey for you in the beginning. Just persevere for two weeks and then ‘test’ yourself by going back to your old diet for a couple of days. You might be surprised by the change in how you feel and what you now like and dislike, the changes are quite often subtle as our body slowly gets into a new ‘habit.’

I am trying to substitute meat products for tofu etc and have eaten only salads for the past week which I have really enjoyed. I tried a small 80grams of meat today and it felt like a rock in my stomach and 3 hours later I’m still digesting it. So that’s a great result I feel………my bodies adjusting and it will only get easier to stop eating meat and enjoy better replacements, or at least reduce my meat intake.

My knowledge is pretty limited but I hope this gives you a start. You can get information from other sources too to help you out, glean a little from everywhere. Books and maybe a dietician too would give some more info. Keep experimenting even if you don’t succeed for the first few goes, every step adds up and you learn more each time. I’ve been trying to improve my diet for a month and I’m still having successes and failures but I’m getting there, learning and improving all the time……Best of luck.

A true Vegetarian is more of a Fruitarian one that eats more fruits than Veggies.. Eat mostly fruits and you should eat a few veggies even if you don’t like them.. you can mix them up with the fruit so you don’t taste the veggies. I don’t think anyone really dislikes veggies.. you’re probably a troll cause we vegetarians some of us honestly say we don’t care for meat! I don’t believe you when you say you **** meat that’s probably your coverup so people won’t think you be a troll!
If you’re being honest then sorry for my mistake.. there are so many deceptive meat eaters on this forum it’s impossible to know who is telling the truth! You have a serious problem!
What are you a Bird? Or do you **** grains seeds wheat too?

When I first went vegetarian I hated vegetables, the only vegetables I liked were carrots and corn. The only fruits I liked were strawberries and bananas. I knew I had to balance my diet properly(even if you ate meat you would have to balance it with fruit and vegetables).

If I didn’t like a vegetable I would eat it anyway, mix it in casseroles, soups, stir fry, or just as a portion on my plate. I found that the first few times I may not have liked the vegetables, but as I kept eating it I did eventually come to like it. My tastes for things changed and you may find the same thing with you.

You should try different ways to cook your vegetables. I found that I cannot stand over cooked vegetables. I like them very lightly steamed(almost raw), any other way and I don’t like the taste. When I finally found the way I liked them cooked, I couldn’t stop eating vegetables.

I always find it amazing when I realize that my taste has changed and all of a sudden I like a fruit or vegetable that I didn’t like before. I just added raisins and peppers to the list of food I always hated and now cannot get enough of.

Sit down & list the foods you do like. You say salads make you ill, it is possible you are allergic to something you are using. But a salad does not have to be lettuce, tomatoes etc. I make raw veggie salads out of all kinds of veggies. Think outside the box.
After you’ve got your list together see how balanced you can make your meals, starting with some fresh raw, then cooked foods at each meal. Fruit counts too!
