Tumeric - The Fat Burning Spice

Scientists have recently discovered that a common spice may hold one of the keys to helping you lose belly fat. It’s true. One of those bottles in your kitchen spice rack could be the answer to the fat loss question that you’ve been looking for.

The mystery spice is tumeric , and it is truly no mystery at all, having been used by chefs to add a zing to foods for the last few thousand years. Although it has been used in the kitchen for millenea, the ancients saw no need to look into the fat burning properties of it. Back in the day, it was the taste that mattered most. Now that modern science has gotten a hold of the stuff, there is no telling what kind of developments are at hand.

Turmeric – The “New” Spice that Helps You Burn Fat
Tumeric itself may not be new, but what is new is that it’s at long last earning some study from serious medical researchers at research universitiesm such as Columbia . Recently, Columbia researchers conducted an experiment that had lab animals eat turmeric. They were compared to a control groups that did not eat the spice. The experimental group demonstrated fewer occurrences of diabetes, weren’t as prone to weight gain, and even had fewer liver problems than the control group.

The research results were so promising that they were presented to a yearly gathering of top level scientists and doctors at the prestigous Endocrine Society . One of the primary goals of endocrinologists is to understand diseases such as diabetes, obesity, and other maladies connected to glands and hormones. That this research would even be presented at such an event reveals the possibilities for this substance . In a day and age when so many are turning to artificial drugs and compounds to lose wieght, it is great to find natural fat burning supplements.

Why does Turmeric Work to Help Subjects Lose Weight Burn Fat?
Despite the mounting research, scientists do not know the exact mechanism by which tumeric helps to melt away fat  , but research suggests that it is in all likelihood due at least in part to a strong antioxidant; the polyphenol curcumin. This strong antioxidant is known  to help Type 2 diabetics lower insulin resistance and lose the weight that can contribute to their disease. Turmeric is rich in curcumin.

Even More Evidence of Turmeric’s Strength
Still more research showing the effectiveness of tumeric was done by  Tuft’s University. It was published in the Journal Science Daily in early 2009. This new study reveals stronger evidence that it is fact the curcumin found in turmeric that is the key compound responsible for the weight control.

Rather than the spice itself, Tuft’s Universtiy researchers examined curcumin extracts. They found a strong probability that test subjects lost weight because the extracts decrease blood flow to fat cells, robbing of the nutrients they need to expand. They concluded the active ingredients really do have a positive effect on weight and fat loss.

Research is still being conducted , and until it is complete we won’t know how well it really works , but it isn’t often that science discovers something that could prove to be so powerful in the fight against fat. Tumeric, something that has been with us for thousands of years, could earn the title of a “new” discovery. If the research pans out, it will not only give us new weapons to fight the belly bulge, but other significant health benefits as well.   There are several other foods that can have powerful effects on your fat loss efforts, now they have company. Tumeric may not be the fastest way to lose weight, but when you’re fighting fat, you need every advantage possible. Combine some creative eating options with quick and effective fat burning exercises, and you could finally have the fat melting away like you’ve been dreaming about for so long .
