Flu Virus Sweeps Across the UK

The UK is currently suffering at the hands of a nasty flu bug that has left hundreds in hospital and thousands more at home in bed missing the first days back at work after an extended break. Cases of the virus have risen rapidly throughout December, particularly in the Home counties. The bug means thousands of people will be forced to take more time off work, right after an extended Christmas break.

There are few reasons being suggested for the break out of the bug, one is the extreme winter weather which makes people spend more time couped up in small spaces with others. Next is the crowded conditions in town centers both in the period leading up to Christmas, and the aftermath, the post-boxing day sales.

Cramped conditions give rise to diseases like flu as the air is dense with bacteria which can be easily breathed in. This is similar to the cramped conditions suffered in a Toyota Yaris when driving the kids around in the blizzard conditions.

You should certainly know how to deal with the flu now, the virus has done the rounds enough times in the country. If you have the symptoms, your main target should be getting better, get plenty of rest, eat regularly and drink lots of water, don’t sit in your Volvo v70 all day!

Many doctors surgeries are turning away patients with flu symptoms at the moment, in fear that the airborne virus will be spread to suseptable groups like the elderly and children, as well as hospital staff. If your symptoms are present for longer than a week, seek further medical advice, bets not to walk to the hospital though, drive there in your mazda mx-5. Always cover your mouth when you cough!
